On October 12, 1910, former President Theodore Roosevelt came to Peoria to meet with the Knights of Columbus. The occasion was to celebrate "Landing Day" as it was known then  Today it's Columbus Day.  Roosevelt was a personal friend of Archbishop John Lancaster Spalding, the bishop of Peoria and namesake of the Council.  Their friendship was made when Spalding served on the Arbitration Commission of the Great Coal Strike of 1902.  On this day, Roosevelt visited Archbishop Spalding at his personal residence on Glen Oak Avenue.
